Midway to Naramatta

Distance – 185 KM

For the summer of 2021 we have a three-day self-guided cycling tour along the KVR for groups of friends and families in their own bubble. The package includes return transportation from Vancouver to the Okanagan, route planning and baggage transfers.

The adventure begins in Vancouver where we will drive our guests to the beginning of the KVR cycling trail at Midway, BC. Here you will begin your cycle at Mile Zero of the historic trail towards Beaverdell. The 70km bike route may seem like a long distance on paper but it can be enjoyed at a leisurely, laid back pace over 5 or more hours. Today’s ride is almost entirely flat with only a small gradient gained in places on route to your destination. You will be riding along the Kettle River for most of the days cycle tour, offering some refreshing swimming holes along the way to cool down from the hot summers sun! Tonight, you can rest your legs at Beaverdell and recharge for the next day’s cycle.

From Beaverdell you will join the KVR cycling trail again and make your way towards McCulloch Lake and the famous Myra Canyon. Do not pass up on the opportunity for a rest and swim at Arlington Lakes, a beautiful lake nestled in the mountains that is a favorite swimming spot of the locals. Today’s bike ride will be approximately 58km. It will be a gentle climb towards Myra Canyon for most of the day. One thing to keep in mind is that this trail is an old steam railway track, so the maximum grade will only be 2.2%. To be honest, you will not even notice that you have been cycling uphill for most of the day but your pace will be a little slower than the previous days cycle. The trail will be under the shade for most of the day in a beautiful tunnel of trees. There will also be meadows and vistas to enjoy along the way! Tonight, you will sleep in the Myra Canyon area and enjoy some incredible views over Okanagan Lake and the wineries below!

The final day is the cream of the crop, a world-famous bike ride from Myra Canyon to Naramata. The bike ride will be an easy 65 km along flat terrain with a massive descent of over 3000 feet into Penticton. Myra Canyon is one of the most spectacular cycles in North America. You will ride along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail, over countless trestles & tunnels on your journey towards Penticton. This corridor is one of the most dynamic routes in Canada, with some truly impressive scenery and panoramic views around every bend. Along the way you can stop for lunch at Chute Lake Resort on the grounds of the old station house, where one might feel as though they have stepped back in time. The restaurant is a living museum full of interesting antiques and artifacts displayed throughout. After lunch you will descend 3000 feet into Penticton and are treated to some magnificent views over Lake Okanagan and the surrounding vineyards. One of our favorite viewpoints of the entire KVR trail is here at Little Tunnel, a great spot to chill out and take in all the beauty of this region. The bike ride downhill from Little Tunnel through Naramatta is simply jaw dropping! This area is known as the “Napa of the North” where you will cycle along the winding and undulating trail through many vineyards and fruit farms. At Penticton we will all meet together and load the bikes into the bus for our journey west back to Vancouver.
